When you think of bike injuries, you usually think of kids falling off their bikes as they’re learning how to ride for the first time. While that may be true, plenty of bike accidents involve adults, and the injuries from these accidents can be more serious and linger for an extended period of time. Here is a list of the most popular injuries and what you should do if you’ve experienced a bicycle accident injury.
Bone fractures – Your head, shoulders, knees, toes and all bones in between can be fractured in a bike accident. Ligament strains and tears – From strains to complete tears, ligaments in your elbows, knees and ankles can also be part of a bicycle accident injury. Spine injuries and ruptured discs – These can sometimes unnoticed initially but they’re serious injuries and warrant examination from a medical professional. Head trauma – Even when wearing a helmet, it’s possible to suffer severe head and brain injury. What Should You Do If you were injured while out riding by yourself, then you should seek help or call 911 depending on the severity of your injury. Just to be safe, you should undergo a full physical and neurological examination to make sure that you didn’t suffer any injuries that weren’t initially detected. For example, it’s possible to suffer a ligament tear in your knee and still be able to walk with only a slight limp for a period of time. The same goes for head trauma. What may feel like slight dizziness initially can turn out to be a concussion or something more serious after further examination. If you’re involved in an accident with a car, be sure to take pictures of the car, your bike and surroundings, and make note of the car’s license plate number and VIN number as well as the driver’s license number and contact information. The team at Howard Blau Law can help you navigate through the process of getting your medical costs reimbursed as well as taking any other legal action.
